This tool helps to create pages that<br /> essentially carry a lot of data and text with themselves and hence carry<br /> various requirements before one can actually begin putting them into<br /> shape. </p> <p>Dreamweaver MX requires you to put some efforts for some bits and bobs as<br /> these are to be in order and are to be set up for your environment. These five technologies comprise of ASP, ASP.NET, JSP,<br /> PHP and ColdFusion.</p> <p>All of these system technologies require processing to be done on them<br /> which can be doe only by using a web server. Hence a web server is a must<br /> to have. This feature of Dreamweaver MX is the major differentiator from<br /> other versions or similar functions available in market. </p> <p>For a beginner, starting work with ASP can be the best as it s the most<br /> commonly used technology. For ASP users, web server comes free along with<br /> Windows. However, it needs to get installed. For NT users, Windows 2000<br /> Pro or Windows XP Pro is the web server to be used. This can be installed<br /> through a CD. </p> <p>Database:<br /> Database is nothing but bunch of information put together for your web<br /> pages. It can be simple and can be a CSV file. It can also be complex and<br /> can be a SQL file. All depends upon your requirement. For creating a<br /> small database, one can simply use Microsoft Access.</p> <p>Basic knowledge would be required in the given field. One can browse the<br /> internet for this or can read lot of available books on the related<br /> topics.</p> <p>Systems Connection to Database:<br /> A connection system needs to be put into place so as to connect the web<br /> server with the created database on your personal computer or machine.<br /> This will help you to define the location of database and apply simple<br /> rules on how the server should connect to the given database.</p> <p>You can lay rules for how the database should be treated. </p> <p>Different methods of making connection are available. However, the most<br /> commonly used of them are system DSN (Data Source Name). They would also do away with any comments on the<br /> template in a way similar to what they would do with the any in the HTML<br /> document.</p> <p>Tag Syntax<br /> Dreamweaver template contains two different sets of tags:</p> <p>? Template Tags are the tags that are used in files having suffix .dwt<br /> with them</p> <p>? Instance Tags are the tags that used in the “instance” documents<br /> which are based upon the dreamweaver template</p> <p>Many of these templates have paired tags for them which have beginning<br /> and ending tags.</p> <p>Dreamweaver?s use of Template Tags<br /> It uses the instance tags in the documents and lets them stay there even<br /> when you are finished with editing the document. It allows the server to<br /> ignore any comments on these documents. It works<br /> absolutely well as a standalone program. It can manage your file<br /> extension and offers program to improve and extend the functionality and<br /> scope of Dreamweaver. </p> <p>Dreamweaver MX is nothing bye an extension manager program which helps in<br /> installation and removal of all the extensions attached towards your<br /> file. This program helps you to change your extension and put them on and<br /> off whenever you want to do so. Not only this, but this program also<br /> allows easy integration along with other programs. It can perform<br /> extremely well with the use of other programs like Flash and Fireworks to<br /> manage the extensions in perfect manner. </p> <p>Managing Extensions with Dreamweaver MX:<br /> Following steps can be used in order to manage your file extensions with<br /> Dreamweaver MX:</p> <p>? Firstly open the Extension manager program in the Dreamweaver MX.<br /> For this, go to the ?Commands? menu and the then click on the “Manage<br /> Extensions.” Tab.</p> <p>? Secondly, in case you are not successful in downloading or opening<br /> the extension manager program, then you need to download this program</p> <p>? Dreamweaver MX should be displayed in the drop-down menu on the site</p> <p>? Once the Dreamweaver MX gets displayed on the drop down menu. You<br /> should then go to the “File” menu and from there choose the “Install<br /> extension” option. This will pop up a file selector box.</p> <p>? After opening this box, you browse the file that you want to<br /> download and after selecting such a file click on the “Install” tag.</p> <p>? You will get a disclaimer notice in front of you. Read this<br /> disclaimer to find that there are no unexpected requirements associated<br /> with the use of the extension. After you are assured you might move ahead<br /> and click the accept or ok button.</p> <p>To avoid the above mentioned long process you can adopt an alternate step<br /> as well. All you need to do here is skip the above options and then<br /> directly install the extension. This can be done by double clicking on<br /> extension option after downloading it. Extensions can also be imported<br /> from Dreamweaver 4 into Dreamweaver MX. However there is limitation<br /> attached to this as all Dreamweaver 4 extensions do not work in MX.<br /> Downloading lot many extension can slow down other functions. Hence, care<br /> should be exercised.<br /> Disabling the extension manger:</p> <p>? Open the extension manager tab by going to the “Commands” menu and<br /> then choosing the “Manage Extensions” option from there. Later on<br /> highlight the extension to be disabled. Thus, Dreamweaver will disable<br /> all the extensions.
